If you’re anywhere near downtown San Francisco, you might consider heading down Market Street this evening to behold a unique art-form – a digital light-show projected on walls and windows stretching all the way to Civic Center.
The idea is to drive Christmas shoppers a little bit further down Market Street, where many retailers have suffered a bad case of “little too close to the Tenderloin”. If you’ve lived in or visited San Francisco you know that things are bustling between the Embarcadero and Powell Street, and then pick up again where the Castro begins – everything in-between is only really vibrant during parades.
It’s hard to say if the tactic will actually convince shoppers to stick around and generate revenue for struggling shops, but either way it should be a great show. And it’s a wonderfully creative use of San Francisco’s main thoroughfare.
The lighting ceremony starts at 5 pm. You can find more information through SFGate’s website.
