The lovely L.A. times recently featured this slideshow of photos of a lush, art-deco era Spanish colonial in Avalon on Catalina Island (just off the coast of Los Angeles). Sift through the pictures and enjoy – the house is absolutely stunning.
[ As for Catalina itself, if you haven’t been you really should fix that. It’s one of Southern California’s little gems. The island and surrounding waters are bursting with wildlife, and it’s all very pedestrian-friendly – the waiting list for island residents to get permits for cars is about twelve years long. (Think of that next time you’re at the DMV.) The town of Avalon was in its prime in the 20s and 30s, as evidenced by the gorgeous art-deco architecture and the glorious Casino Theatre and Ballroom.]
